Phil Crowe obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Sydney before obtaining a PhD (D. Phil) at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He is now Professor of Surgery at Prince of Wales Hospital, University of New South Wales, Founder and Co-Director of the Sydney Sarcoma Unit and Surgical Oncology Research Group, at University of New South Wales. As an academic Surgical Oncologist, he has published over 100 articles in peer reviewed journals. His main areas of clinical and research interest are soft tissue tumours, sarcoma, breast and endocrine tumours and he has also published other areas such as medical and surgical education. In the field of sarcoma he has reported on the results of novel treatments to reduce post-operative complications, as well as the impact of novel tumour markers on prognosis.

He is an active member of the Australian Sarcoma Group and founding board member of the Australasian Sarcoma Study Group, which is now the Australian and New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA). He is a member of the ANZSA Scientific Advisory Committee and Database Committee. Phil is also actively involved in third world medicine, having visited many underdeveloped counties to provide surgical care and assist local hospitals and universities with medical and surgical education. It is totally irrelevant that he played Rugby for Australia as a Wallaby, and is a keen golfer.
